If you're a bride or groom getting married in 2017, chances are you experienced that "We're getting married this year!!" feeling...followed abruptly by that "oh CRAP. We're getting married THIS year?!" stomach drop sometime shortly after the clock rang twelve on New Years Eve. Don't worry! You're in good company! Many couples experience that wonderfully exhilarating twisted emotion of excitement and SHEER TERROR as different timeline markers come and go. Have no fear! There are many things you can be doing along the way to make sure you're meeting all your deadlines, crossing all your t's, and dotting all your i's. There's no reason to needlessly worry at the end when you can do small tasks quickly and easily along the way.
Here are a three easy tips for ensuring a stress-reduced journey down wedding planning lane:
1. Confirm vendors now! You may still be months away from your big day, but a quick email and deposit cheque is an easy and quick way to put your mind at ease! Make sure your email clearly confirms the date and time that each vendor is required.
2. Order your bridesmaids dresses early! Many people wait to order their bridesmaids dresses until closer to the wedding. Why do they do this? Often one or two bridesmaids are hoping to lose weight or get in shape their bodies are forever immortalized in your wedding pictures. While this is a great theory, leaving the dresses even until the last few months isn't leaving much of a buffer for complications. Dresses REGULARLY come in the wrong size or colour, and it is extremely rare to not need at least one set of alterations done per dress. Better to order ahead and have the luxury of time to do as many alterations as possible as people get in shape and prepare for the big day!
3. Delegate help! Believe it or not, your wedding party is there for more than just adding colour to your photos! Make the most of your friends (without taking advantage of them!) and ask for help! Ask for help planning the events leading up to the wedding like Buck & Doe's, Bridal Showers, etc. If you have a variety of DIY projects, invite your friends over for finger foods, wine, and invitation assembly, place card production, or wine making. Don't do it on your own! Not only will you go crazy balancing all the tasks, but you'll have more fun preparing with friends and family.
And finally, if you're really starting to stress out, hire a wedding planner! ;)
